Revealing Anne Lister
"Oh I think... you have every reason to hope"

Sue Perkins' take on Anne

To anyone living in the UK, Sue Perkins is a well-known comedian, broadcaster, actress, and writer. She also happens to be gay, and has reportedly said that "being a lesbian is only about the 47th most interesting thing about me".[1]

The documentary doesn't add much to our body of knowledge of Anne's life - she reads extensively from Helena Whitbread's books. The interviews, including one with Helena Whitbread, are excellent.

Perkins doesn't come across as great fan: she's (not surprisingly) critical of Anne's treatment of Elza Raine and Miss Browne. More sympathetic regarding Mariana, but when it comes to Ann: "she's ruthless... looking for liquidity rather than love...".
